Candidates must possess a Fire Protection bachelor's degree, a Fire Protection PE license, at least 5 years of experience in fire protection and life safety systems, and the ability to obtain a federal clearance (HSPD-12 minimum). Experience with national fire protection codes, system design (does not include modeling), and field work experience performing fire protection and life safety surveys are also required, along with NICET or NFPA certifications.
The Fire Protection Engineer will perform technical reviews of building and development plans and specifications for compliance with Life Safety Code and adopted National Fire Protection Association systems/standards, check sprinkler plans and hydraulic calculations, ensure compliance with gaseous fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, and smoke control requirements, conduct construction and highly technical fire and life safety-related field inspections, maintain records and files, prepare reports, respond to inquiries from the public regarding fire prevention practices, and oversee/lead the work of other fire protection staff.
