Requirements

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electronics, Mechanics, Materials Science, Biology, or a related field. A proven track record in solving high-end systems and subsystems down to component level is required, along with the ability to read and interpret schematics. Proficiency in English is necessary, and knowledge of Dutch is a plus. A valid driver's license is also required. Experience with installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating instruments such as SEM, TEM, or FIB is typically needed, with electron microscope experience being advantageous. Experience in troubleshooting and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems is highly desired, as are excellent interpersonal skills. Candidates must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time, primarily in the BeNeLux area and occasionally in other countries.

Responsibilities

The Field Service Engineer will perform on-site installation, alignment, and repair of sophisticated scientific equipment, ensuring validated operational quality. They will advise customers on system operation and maintenance, serving as a company liaison for technical and administrative matters. Responsibilities include conducting scheduled planned maintenance visits, providing support to customers and other field service personnel, and cultivating positive relationships. The role involves completing technical training, submitting field service reports, performing preventive maintenance, and collaborating with colleagues for technical mentorship. Additionally, the engineer will provide training to customers on system maintenance, offer feedback to product quality teams, update system documentation, and act as a subject expert. Collaboration with application scientists is expected to resolve user challenges. Some degree of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required during work.
