Job Description: Field Service Engineer

Position Overview

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Field Service Engineer (FSE) within our Laboratory Equipment (LE) division. As a remote colleague, you will commute daily to customer sites to provide sophisticated services, including repair, installation, and maintenance of various laboratory equipment products. These products include temperature monitoring devices, incubators, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and cryogenic storage units. You will be responsible for managing customer relationships, scheduling visits, addressing concerns, and resolving issues to ensure customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will reside in the Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina area.

Responsibilities

  • Handle various aspects of field service support and customer relationships.
  • Provide sophisticated services on laboratory equipment.
  • Repair, install, and maintain laboratory equipment products such as temperature monitoring devices, incubators, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and cryogenic storage.
  • Work directly with customers to schedule visits, address their concerns, and provide reassurance while resolving their problems.
  • Complete learning assignments on time.
  • Read and understand procedures.
  • Submit expense reports.
  • Maintain spare part inventory.

Requirements

  • Education: Certification, Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in HVAC, electronics, or engineering is advantageous.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

Environmental Conditions

  • Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards.
  • Cleanroom Requirements: No hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, or facial hair allowed.
  • Some degree of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, including safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coats, and earplugs.

Benefits and Travel

  • FSEs are provided with a Company (Fleet) vehicle for daily travel to multiple customer locations within their defined service area.
  • Overnight travel of approximately 10% is required for servicing customers and participating in training programs.
