Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in a wide variety of experiential media, including adventure-based and environmental activities, sports, dance, group initiatives, arts/crafts, music, outdoor activities, art media, psychodrama, horticulture, ropes, and challenge course
  • Working knowledge of psychosocial functioning of patient/resident groups and application of expressive activities within a psychiatric setting
  • Understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance guidelines
  • Knowledge of intervention strategies, de-escalation techniques, and least-restrictive measures
  • Knowledge of common diagnostic categories, their relationship to patients’/residents’ behavior, and treatment procedures/models (behavioral, recovery, etc.)
  • Compliance with Rogers Memorial Hospital policies and procedures (Infection Control, Safety, Employee Health, Human Resources, Experiential Therapy)
  • Completion of all required orientation competencies, training, educational requirements, and obligations pertaining to program/unit license regulatory requirements
  • Attendance at all mandatory in-services, relevant in-services, department staff meetings, and informational meetings

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, implement, facilitate, direct, and evaluate experiential therapy programming in all specialized treatment areas
  • Apply knowledge and experience in an educational role with interdisciplinary staff and community resources
  • Document within designated program, including completing treatment plans, evaluations, and therapeutic documentation according to Rogers policy
  • Conduct self professionally, promote positive team-oriented approach, display leadership and positive role-modeling, and demonstrate courteous/respectful demeanor
  • Maintain supportive/collaborative environment, resolve issues positively with solution focus, identify concerns, and provide input for resolution
  • Participate in training new employees as directed, Rogers Improvement System (OS), and application of ROS model to department functions
  • Conduct experiential therapy as scheduled, evaluate/plan/coordinate programming to meet patients’/residents’ needs, maintain environments for safety/supplies, and be flexible with assignments/schedule changes
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient/resident groups, establish therapeutic rapport, monitor behavior, intervene safely using de-escalation and least-restrictive measures
  • Attend Experiential Therapy department and program staff meetings as required, and meet with the manager of Experiential Therapy
