Requirements

  • Knowledge of applicable regulations including OSHA, FMCSA, CGA, FDA, DOT, DHS, EPA, and Codes of Federal Regulations (CFRs)
  • Ability to oversee implementation, development, and continuous improvement of EHS and IMS programs
  • Capability to conduct audits, inspections, safety engagements, and prepare reports
  • Experience in providing safety and compliance training, including developing content
  • Ability to maintain regulatory permits, certifications, and licenses
  • Skills in driver training, including Smith System Training, Driver Mentor program, fleet tools, and annual driver demonstrations
  • Capacity to lead accident and injury investigations, incident reviews, and emergency response
  • Proficiency in compiling data for environmental reporting (e.g., Tier II, EPA’s RMP)
  • Ability to drive commercial vehicles for training, demonstration, and emergencies
  • Leadership skills for managing teams like the Alaska Airgas Emergency Response Operations (AERO) team

Responsibilities

  • Oversee implementation, development, and continuous improvement of EHS and IMS programs for Airgas in Alaska
  • Ensure conformance and compliance to all internal and external safety requirements
  • Promote and demonstrate an accident- and injury-free culture, including adherence to company policies and PPE use
  • Inform, encourage, and support associates in meeting safety requirements
  • Perform Safety Engagements, solicit feedback, conduct audits, and prepare summary reports on IMS/HSE/DOT/DHS activities
  • Participate in and lead safety meetings
  • Provide Safety & Compliance-related training and develop training content
  • Maintain regulatory permits, certifications, and licenses for plant and retail operations
  • Develop, train, implement, and support the Driver Mentor program
  • Assist facility managers with EHS and IMS implementation, inspections, corrective actions, and closure
  • Assist with pre-employment interviewing, driver demonstrations, and evaluations for safety-sensitive positions
  • Provide Smith System Training and coach drivers on fleet tools, equipment, processes, routing, and safety
  • Perform annual driver demonstrations, prepare reports, and conduct follow-up observations with coaching
  • Respond immediately in-person to emergency situations
  • Lead accident and injury investigations and incident reviews
  • Coordinate with Safety Director and insurance providers for worker’s compensation, light duty, and return to work
  • Drive commercial vehicles as needed for training, demonstration, and emergencies
  • Compile data and assist with Tier II, EPA’s RMP, and other environmental reporting
  • Assist with office and administrative duties, including maintenance of safety records and reporting
  • Lead the Alaska Airgas Emergency Response Operations (AERO) team
