Helius is a leading developer platform on the Solana blockchain, focused on accelerating the creation of crypto-powered software. Prominent customers like Coinbase, Jupiter, and Phantom utilize Helius to power their Solana applications. The company has secured over $34 million in funding from notable investors including Haun Ventures, Founders Fund, and Foundation Capital, as well as angel investors such as Solana co-founders Anatoly Yakovenko and Raj Gokal. The team comprises individuals with prior experience building scalable infrastructure at companies like AWS, Coinbase, and Google.

Why This Role Matters

This is a crucial role as you will be the first Engineering Manager at Helius. You will lead a high-caliber team of engineers across various product lines, serving as the technical backbone and organizational anchor to facilitate scaling while preserving the company's fast-paced, high-impact culture.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of backend and systems engineers.
  • Set a high technical standard through leading design reviews, challenging assumptions, and guiding the architecture of distributed systems, low-latency services, and high-throughput APIs.
  • Own the end-to-end hiring process for your team, with support from founders and recruiting.
  • Collaborate closely with founders to scale the company’s engineering culture, processes, and infrastructure.
  • Execute efficiently in a demanding environment, embracing tradeoffs, uncertainty, and pressure.
  • Drive impact on real crypto infrastructure utilized daily by leading Solana teams and protocols.
  • Allocate your time as follows:
    • 60% Engineering Management (planning, execution, hiring, team health)
    • 25% Technical Leadership (system design, mentorship)
    • 15% Coding (unblocking critical paths)

You’ll Thrive Here If You…

  • Have 1-2+ years of engineering management experience (startup or high-growth organization) and understand when to coach versus when to take direct action.
  • Possess 5+ years of backend/systems engineering experience (Rust, Go, C++, or similar) and can still contribute code for well-scoped fixes or prototypes.
  • Have experience shipping and operating distributed, performance-sensitive systems (e.g., queues, caches, databases, pub/sub, low-latency services).
  • Are adept at hiring, coaching, and making difficult decisions to maintain a high bar.
  • Can clearly communicate tradeoffs under pressure and maintain team focus on outcomes.
  • Are passionate about developer experience and making a significant impact on the Solana and broader crypto ecosystem.
  • Are enthusiastic about shaping Solana and web3 infrastructure alongside an ambitious team.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Production Rust expertise.
  • Prior experience with infrastructure, DeFi, exchanges, or other high-throughput environments.
  • Familiarity with Solana internals or web3 developer tooling.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation and equity.
  • Fully remote work with flexible hours, requiring core overlap with Americas time zones.
  • A close-knit, ambitious team characterized by low ego and high ownership.
  • A unique opportunity to influence the future of crypto.

We believe that great managers empower engineers. If you are energized by removing obstacles, fostering individual growth, and occasionally stepping in to resolve critical issues, we encourage you to apply.

Helium

Decentralized peer-to-peer wireless network for IoT

About Helium

Helium creates a decentralized wireless network specifically for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as smart collars and sensors. Their network operates on a peer-to-peer model, allowing devices to communicate without relying on traditional cellular plans. Users can purchase and set up IoT hotspots that contribute to the network's coverage, and in return, they earn Helium's cryptocurrency, HNT. This approach not only reduces costs for businesses and developers needing reliable connectivity for their IoT devices but also incentivizes users to expand the network. Helium stands out from competitors by offering a community-driven solution that combines hardware and blockchain technology, aiming to make IoT connectivity more accessible and efficient.
