Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field
5+ years of experience working with distributed systems
2+ years of leading engineering teams
Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures and code design principles
Strong grasp of high-scale distributed systems
Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and database management
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
Experience with automation and continuous improvement methodologies
Strong understanding of database performance optimization and scalability

Responsibilities

Define the future of Box DB Infra architecture in the cloud and evolve our systems towards it
Guide team members as they design novel approaches to addressing scale and performance challenges associated with exponentially increasing usage of our data tier
Build a cohesive team with a strong sense of ownership and a culture of fast execution while consistently maintaining a high standard of quality
Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and increased automation to optimize efficiency, reduce toil, and deliver long-term value
Develop objectives and key results to meet business goals, and drive the team to deliver against them
Guide the professional growth of engineers, providing relevant and timely career guidance and feedback
Manage and coordinate the team’s on-call rotation to ensure timely and effective incident response
Participate in escalated on-call incidents to provide leadership and support
Drive improvements by addressing recurring issues to minimize disruptions
Collaborate with the database platform team and the database access service layer team to optimize the database layer for performance and efficiency in a high-throughput, low-latency environment
