Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience working with distributed systems
  • 2+ years of leading engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures and code design principles
  • Strong grasp of high-scale distributed systems
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and database management
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Experience with automation and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Strong understanding of database performance optimization and scalability

Responsibilities

  • Define the future of Box DB Infra architecture in the cloud and evolve our systems towards it
  • Guide team members as they design novel approaches to addressing scale and performance challenges associated with exponentially increasing usage of our data tier
  • Build a cohesive team with a strong sense of ownership and a culture of fast execution while consistently maintaining a high standard of quality
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and increased automation to optimize efficiency, reduce toil, and deliver long-term value
  • Develop objectives and key results to meet business goals, and drive the team to deliver against them
  • Guide the professional growth of engineers, providing relevant and timely career guidance and feedback
  • Manage and coordinate the team’s on-call rotation to ensure timely and effective incident response
  • Participate in escalated on-call incidents to provide leadership and support
  • Drive improvements by addressing recurring issues to minimize disruptions
  • Collaborate with the database platform team and the database access service layer team to optimize the database layer for performance and efficiency in a high-throughput, low-latency environment
