Responsibilities

The Director, Sensing Technologies will build out and lead a team of hardware, optics, and sensing engineers to develop new capabilities and technologies for wearable devices, helping define and drive the long-term sensing technology roadmap for Oura’s wearable devices, aligning with product strategy and user needs. They will research, evaluate, and select new sensor technologies, including PPG, accelerometers, gyroscopes, temperature sensors, and emerging sensing modalities, leading the integration of sensors into devices while optimizing sensor placement, signal conditioning, and data acquisition. Furthermore, they will develop and implement algorithms and techniques to improve sensor accuracy, reliability, and power efficiency, collaborating with data science and algorithm teams, managing relationships with sensor vendors, and overseeing sensor testing and validation plans. The role also involves staying abreast of the latest advancements in sensing technologies and ensuring seamless sensor integration and data flow through cross-functional collaboration with electrical engineering, firmware, software, and product management teams, and optimizing the overall sensing system for performance and power consumption.
