We are looking for someone to build and scale the virtual and physical infrastructure that helps our scientists and engineers do high quality science quickly. The responsibilities of this role are varied, ranging from managing machines in robotic cell-feeding workcells to configuring software service monitoring to building analysis pipelines for neural recording data to instrumenting our lab and cleanroom equipment.

Qualities of a successful candidate include proven technical judgment in identifying the tools, platforms and languages best suited to the task at hand, and fluently learning and using those tools to solve real-world problems.

Requirements

• Experience: 3+ years in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, data engineering, or SRE
• Programming Skills: Basic programming skills, particularly in Ruby, Python, or C
• Monitoring Systems: Experience setting up robust monitoring and alert systems (critical onsite robotics, automation equipment, and lab instruments)
• Networking Knowledge: Proficiency in networking principles and fundamentals, such as TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, and network security protocols
• Problem Solving: Ability to quickly assess the impact and urgency of multiple problems, communicate timelines to stakeholders, and ship solutions while keeping technical debt under control

Responsibilities

• Automation Pipeline Design & Implementation: Design, implement, and manage automation pipelines for code development, testing, and deployment.
• Security Integration: Integrate security tools and practices into the CI/CD pipeline to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities early in the development cycle.
• Documentation & Maintenance: Ensure all systems, processes, and automation frameworks are thoroughly documented and kept up-to-date.
• Process Analysis & Automation: Perform comprehensive system analysis to identify processes that can be automated, aiming to improve operational efficiency.
• Monitoring Implementation & Maintenance: Implement and maintain monitoring solutions to proactively detect and resolve issues in the infrastructure.
• Technology Evaluation & Implementation: Evaluate, recommend, and implement new tools and technologies to improve the DevOps processes.
• Industry Trend Awareness: Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating relevant tools into the workflow.

Preferred Qualifications

• CI/CD Understanding: Understanding of code testing strategies and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes
• Security & Performance: Working familiarity with performance tuning, security hardening, and backup strategies
• Hands-on Management: Hands-on experience managing infrastructure.
