Candidates must possess 7+ years of experience in large-scale datacenter network deployment, structured cabling, or physical-layer installation. Deep knowledge of fiber/copper plant design, cabling standards, and hyperscale network best practices is required. Experience with automation tools, scripting, hyperscale Clos fabrics, routing and switching concepts, and basic Linux/network troubleshooting are preferred. Industry certifications such as BICSI, CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent are also preferred. The role requires the ability to sit onsite in Abilene, Texas 5 days per week and willingness to travel to future OpenAI data center projects.
The Datacenter Networking Technician will serve as the technical lead during campus builds, partnering with internal engineers and external contractors on design reviews, installation plans, and acceptance criteria. This role involves significant time on the data-center floor performing inspections, assisting with cable routing/termination, conducting fiber testing, and resolving installation challenges. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and optimizing cabling, patching, and equipment turn-up, contributing to design discussions with practical field feedback, and developing repeatable engineering standards, as-built documentation, and deployment playbooks. The technician will transition to hands-on design and deployment leadership for upcoming projects, owning network physical-layer deployment from design through commissioning.
