Candidates should possess 10+ years of progressive experience in database engineering or database administration, with at least 3+ years of leadership and management experience overseeing database engineering teams. They require hands-on experience running MSSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB workloads at scale within AWS, along with expertise in cloud-native database architectures, including managed services like RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, and self-managed clusters on EC2/Kubernetes. Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure principles such as VPC, IAM, security groups, encryption, and multi-AZ deployments is essential, as is proven success in transforming legacy database operations into cloud-optimized, automated environments. Furthermore, they must have deep knowledge of high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR) strategies, cost optimization, and backup/restore methodologies for databases, coupled with practical experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
The Database Engineering Architect will build and lead a high-performing, cloud-native database engineering team, including hiring, mentoring, and developing talent. They will define and drive the technical roadmap for MSSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB database services in AWS, ensuring security, availability, scalability, resilience, and cost-efficiency of database platforms. This role involves partnering with Cloud Infrastructure, Software Engineering, and Enterprise Architecture teams to integrate databases into cloud architectures and applications, overseeing the automation of database provisioning, maintenance, backups, HA, DR, and scaling operations. The Architect will also define and enforce best practices for database security, monitoring, performance tuning, and compliance, provide hands-on support for complex database challenges, lead capacity planning, budget forecasting, and vendor/license management, and plan/drive the decommissioning or migration of legacy database systems.
