Data Center Infrastructure Architect
VultrFull Time
Expert & Leadership (9+ years)
Candidates must have over 15 years of experience in security, with at least 10 years leading large-scale global infrastructure or data center programs. A proven track record of protecting hyperscale, colocation, or hybrid environments against sophisticated adversaries, including insider threats and close-access attacks, is essential. Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, and retaining multidisciplinary security teams across different time zones and cultures is required. Deep knowledge of security design and operations, including host-level hardening, network segmentation, IAM/PAM, secure provisioning, firmware and bare-metal security, and governance frameworks, is necessary. Strong familiarity with control frameworks like NIST, ISO 27001, and SOC 2, along with experience driving compliance in regulated environments, is also required.
The Data Center Security Technical Lead will spearhead the overall security vision, architecture, execution, and sustained operations to protect data center infrastructure globally. This role involves recruiting, mentoring, and leading a diverse, distributed team of security professionals across multiple time zones. Responsibilities include integrating hardware-rooted trust, segmented enclaves, side-channel mitigations, and insider-risk countermeasures. The lead will drive security design reviews, threat modeling, supply-chain risk assessments, secure provisioning, runtime monitoring, incident response, and structured decommissioning. Collaboration with engineering, operations, and security teams to define and enforce security best practices, including network segmentation, physical security, identity management, and access control, is crucial. Engaging with suppliers and partners to mitigate third-party risks, preparing executive-level updates on risk posture and compliance, and ensuring facilities meet strict compliance requirements are also key duties. The role requires continually evolving data center security in response to cybersecurity advancements, adversary activity, and the increasing sophistication of frontier models.
Develops safe and beneficial AI technologies
OpenAI develops and deploys artificial intelligence technologies aimed at benefiting humanity. The company creates advanced AI models capable of performing various tasks, such as automating processes and enhancing creativity. OpenAI's products, like Sora, allow users to generate videos from text descriptions, showcasing the versatility of its AI applications. Unlike many competitors, OpenAI operates under a capped profit model, which limits the profits it can make and ensures that excess earnings are redistributed to maximize the social benefits of AI. This commitment to safety and ethical considerations is central to its mission of ensuring that artificial general intelligence (AGI) serves all of humanity.
