Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience participating in projects as an application engineer (desirable: scratch development, Windows/Linux on-premises development, program coding experience, or system specification understanding with basic design experience even without coding)
  • Project management experience as leader or sub-leader of 3-15 member teams
  • Ability to maintain teamwork and good communication within the team, including with remote/diverse workers, ensuring balanced workloads through discussion and cooperation
  • Mindset to provide high-value, high-service-quality services as a development vendor to customers
  • Sufficient Japanese proficiency to write design documents/minutes and communicate smoothly with customers
  • (Preferred) Awareness and experience in project cost management
  • (Preferred) Business experience related to customer vision, business goals, and key success factors
  • (Preferred) Leadership skills to train, guide, and advise less experienced staff toward team goals

Responsibilities

  • Engage as an application engineer in system construction to solve customer business challenges as the primary contractor
  • Understand business challenges explained by customers, discuss unclear points, and organize system specifications (with team support if needed)
  • Share system specifications with development members, perform design, or issue design instructions
  • Perform basic and detailed design (language-agnostic) in Waterfall development methodology
  • Manage issues from design through testing, negotiating out-of-scope items with customers
  • Determine project direction, issue countermeasure instructions, and address challenges
  • Understand and evaluate quality based on metrics from customers or IPA, identify poor quality areas, and implement countermeasures
  • During UAT, respond to customer inquiries, consider measures, and negotiate out-of-scope items while maintaining smooth relationships
  • Perform production releases or issue release instructions to developers
  • For post-production incidents, implement immediate temporary fixes, followed by root cause analysis and permanent resolutions
  • Serve as leader or sub-leader for projects of 10-30 man-month scale in credit card, mid-sized bank, trust bank, or insurance application development
