Position Overview

Headway's mission is to build a new mental health care system that everyone can access. We have developed software that connects individuals with therapists through a national network of providers who accept insurance. Currently, a significant portion of the population struggles to access mental healthcare due to high costs, as most providers do not accept insurance. Headway aims to solve this by simplifying the process for therapists to accept insurance and expand their practices.

Founded in 2019, Headway has grown into a diverse, national network of over 45,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states. Our software supports these providers, and we have served over 1 million patients. We are a Series D company with over $325 million in funding from prominent investors including a16z, Accel, GV, Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, Forerunner Ventures, and Health Care Service Corporation.

About the Role

As the Creative Director at Headway, you will be instrumental in transforming how people perceive and access mental healthcare. Your role will involve crafting powerful brand storytelling and high-performing growth campaigns. This leadership position requires you to define our brand identity within the mental healthcare sector and drive measurable growth through creative excellence across product marketing, user acquisition, provider engagement, and brand awareness. You will collaborate with executives and cross-functional leaders to shape Headway's public image, developing creative systems and campaigns that resonate. The work of your team will directly impact millions seeking mental healthcare and thousands of providers joining our network, fostering authentic connections that drive both brand loyalty and business results through effective assets across all channels and touchpoints.

The Creative team at Headway is more than just a design function; it serves as the strategic engine that shapes our audience engagement and acts as a key lever for business growth. Our focused team of brand designers, copywriters, and creative operations specialists has established credibility by consistently delivering campaigns that achieve both metric-driven results and meaningful human connection. With ongoing investment in brand development and creative performance optimization, we are looking for a leader to guide Headway's brand presence, ensuring every creative decision converts the target audience and amplifies our mission of making mental healthcare accessible to all.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and scale a world-class creative team with diverse expertise, including brand design, copy, video production, and campaign development, as well as Creative Operations.
  • Own the creative and brand foundation, including brand identity systems, creative templates, and campaign frameworks.
  • Translate business objectives and brand goals into actionable creative strategies and executions.
  • Drive brand and creative initiatives to tell a compelling story for Headway, collaborating with executives, marketing, and product leadership.
  • Partner with Product Design to maintain brand cohesion across all key touchpoints in marketing and product.

Who You Are

  • Possess 5+ years of experience as a Creative Director with a portfolio showcasing impactful, boundary-pushing creative work.
  • Demonstrated experience managing creative teams of 10+ people, executing major rebrands or brand evolutions that generated quantifiable business impact and market differentiation.
  • Combined agency and in-house experience, preferably within a Series C/D+ startup environment, particularly in healthcare, wellness, or mission-driven companies that balance purpose with growth.
  • Exhibit exceptional artistic vision and design sensibilities with meticulous attention to detail, aesthetics, and brand consistency.
