Requirements

Required experience includes 5-8 years in workplace safety legal matters, with law firm training preferred and prior in-house experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Knowledge of the automotive industry, especially with batteries and electric energy generation, is a plus. The role demands proven ability to lead projects, inspire teams, demonstrate commitment to compliance and integrity, provide legal advice in regulated environments, quickly resolve legal issues, manage conflicting demands in a fast-paced setting, collaborate effectively, and possess strong work ethic. Strategic guidance through change, knowledge of key legal trends, respectful communication, critical thinking, and concise presentation skills are also essential.

Responsibilities

The Counsel Workplace Safety will provide legal advice and counsel to GM Manufacturing, Global Workplace Safety, Medical, and technical experts on workplace safety obligations, risk mitigation, and related policies. This includes responding to OSHA safety and retaliation complaints, managing OSHA onsite inspections, and resolving or litigating OSHA citations. The role involves interpreting safety-related legal obligations, advising on injury/illness reporting and record-keeping, and assisting GM Audit Services with health and safety audits. Responsibilities also include contributing to internal GM safety communications, developing global workplace safety standards, creating a global center of excellence for workplace safety, and supporting the GM Global Workplace Safety organization's objectives.
