Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with highway or bridge construction, including inspections on new construction and renovations
  • High-School diploma or equivalent (required); Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • VDOT Materials Certified in highway & bridges (required or VA equivalent)
  • DEQ Dual Inspector; Bridge and Roadway Construction certification (preferred)
  • VDOT Soils & Aggregate Compaction (required)
  • VDOT Asphalt I & II (required)
  • VDOT Intermediate Work Zone (required)
  • OSHA-10 (required)
  • HAZMAT/Nuclear Safety (required)
  • Experience with Prolog Construction Management software (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints, monitor construction progress, examine exterior work, utilize survey instruments, take photographs, and maintain a log
  • Ensure compliance of work in the field, perform MOT and E&S reviews, and update project documentation
  • Coordinate with the Senior Project Inspector to monitor all work activities, identify and track issues, identify non-conforming work, and prepare daily reports
  • Recommend solutions to field issues to the Senior Project Inspector, Construction Manager, and Contractor
  • Directly support the Senior Project Inspector on the project site, monitoring Contractor’s operations and documenting daily activities
  • Coordinate and facilitate all construction activities related to the General Contractor (GC) and Client
  • Provide daily onsite field representation to monitor construction contractor performance and inspect work in accordance with specifications and drawings
  • Provide technical expertise on the products/materials being installed in the project
  • Monitor all construction activities with emphasis on milestones, phasing/sequencing, submittals, efficient and balanced workflow, major tests, and unique requirements
  • Monitor project for cleanliness
  • Monitor and inspect the GC for compliance with current safety regulations, standards, project safety plan, and report any non-compliance to the Client
