Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in law (e.g. JD or LLB)
  • Meets local legal license requirements
  • Typically 6-10 years commercial legal experience at a law firm or in-house
  • Advanced level of experience in one or more general or specialty law practice areas acquired through being a leading resource in-house or in similar industry or law firm environment
  • Advanced breadth and depth of practical legal and relevant business knowledge
  • Recognized subject matter expert in one or more practice areas
  • Strong knowledge of company policies and procedures
  • Awareness of the international legal environment
  • Advanced skills and experience in negotiating or advising on complex or high value/risk matters or in specific practice areas
  • Proactive and effective communicator of valuable information to clients and colleagues
  • English language skills to business standard strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manages legal solutions for clients at the sub-region, region, and/or business unit level; or supports complex transactions at local or regional level; or provides specialized legal solutions in one or more areas of specialty law
  • Develops new ideas and methods to effectively address recurring legal issues or matters facing multiple client organizations
  • Identifies and resolves complex legal issues requiring in-depth consideration of multiple factors
  • Manages complex legal responsibilities for multiple client organizations
  • Contributes to complex multidimensional projects or transactions
  • Acts as a legal advisor to assigned internal clients (including the range of company businesses and functions)
  • Identifies legal risk and recommends solutions that help address the client’s objectives
  • Represents company in transactions, interactions or disputes with customers, suppliers, partners, and competitors
  • Balances the business interests of client groups with ultimate fiduciary responsibility to company
  • Represents the company before industry policy setting organizations, government agencies and other regulatory bodies
  • Applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert
  • Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods
  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors
  • Leads and/or provides expertise to functional project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives
  • Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies
