Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions as hemodialysis team leader with knowledge in current dialysis principles and techniques
  • Participates in all scheduled in-services
  • Completes Nurse’s Technical Training Program/Water Quality Facility
  • Supervises and operates dialysis-related and emergency equipment safely and efficiently
  • Performs required testing, verification, and checklist initialing for start-up and shut-down procedures per Technical Services Manual

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day guidance, support, direction, informal feedback, and formal input for performance evaluations to direct patient care staff
  • Participates in department staffing, hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions; recommends and initiates disciplinary action as appropriate
  • Ensures compliance with company, facility procedures, policies, and state/federal regulations
  • Approves or disapproves time or personnel schedule changes in Facility Administrator's absence, ensuring proper documentation
  • Participates in patient care plan meetings and supervises completion of short- and long-term care plans
  • Trains, orients, observes, and guides direct patient care staff on techniques and adherence to policies/procedures
  • Promotes and assists with OSHA compliance for a safe working environment
  • Conducts staff meetings monthly or as needed with Facility Administrator to inform staff of changes
  • Meets routinely with Facility Administrator to discuss personnel, patient care status, issues, and information
  • Supervises all documentation of patient information
  • Coordinates Charge Nurse duties with relief Staff RNs; assesses daily patient care needs and assigns appropriately
  • Assumes primary responsibility in emergency situations
  • Assesses patient needs, responds to dialysis treatments, communicates concerns to physician, and implements care/treatment changes as directed
  • Monitors and supervises all patient care activity during dialysis, assists as necessary, and continuously monitors for problems/complications
  • Administers medications per physician’s orders
  • Acts as subject matter expert and resource for staff
  • Admits new patients per facility procedure
  • Ensures educational needs of patients are met; educates patients and families on End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medication
  • Maintains overall shift operation in a safe, efficient, and effective manner
  • Assists with special projects or other duties as assigned
