Backend Engineer

Position Overview

Rhombus is seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join our mission to make the world a safer place. As a Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in adding and maintaining product features and functionality in our cloud environment. This role involves working with UI and Firmware teams to expose and manage data, designing data structures and databases, and contributing to our analytics pipeline. Rhombus leverages a contract-driven micro-services architecture, built on top of the Spring Framework.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage backend technologies such as Spring, NoSQL databases, time-series databases, and message queues and more to build features that customers love.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering teams to design and build robust, secure, and scalable APIs.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize system performance to meet scalability and efficiency demands.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance, reliable, and distributed real-time event processing pipelines.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape the long-term backend technology roadmap in alignment with product and business goals.
  • Effectively communicate technical progress and trade-offs with stakeholders, engineering leadership, and cross-functional partners.
  • Work with cutting-edge AI technologies to enhance security insights, automation, and operational efficiency for our customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development with a focus on building and maintaining backend services.
  • Professional working experience in Java development, including writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Familiarity with Spring framework and core AWS services (such as Lambda, SQS, Kinesis, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience designing micro-services and building scalable solutions.

Location

  • Hybrid position based in Sacramento, CA.
  • Candidates must be able to commute to the office 2-3 times a week.

Work Authorization

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.

Compensation

  • Salary: $140,000 - $180,000 USD
  • Additional forms of compensation, depending on the role, include performance incentives, discretionary bonuses, and equity in the company.
  • Individual pay is determined based on the candidate's primary work/hiring location and additional factors, such as skills and experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training.
