Position Overview

Cars.com’s Editorial department is passionate about helping car shoppers find the right car for their life. We dive into the details to demystify cars, car shopping, and car ownership. As a News Editor at Cars.com, you will enjoy digging into data to find coverage opportunities, writing articles, and shooting videos that inform and educate consumers throughout their car search. You will work with some of the best automotive journalists in the business. We are looking for someone with a can-do attitude who is ready to jump in and help create content for Cars.com’s News, Research, or Video sections, and potentially our social channels.

Responsibilities

  • Create long- and short-form articles using Cars.com and industry data.
  • Write video scripts and appear on camera.
  • Create content for social platforms, as needed.
  • Utilize strong research skills to generate original, insightful reporting.
  • Manage and balance priorities to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Experience in SEO writing and content optimization, including headlines and keyword search.
  • Assist with assigning daily news and content edits as needed.
  • Some travel should be expected.
  • Opportunity to review cars, based on individual performance.

Requirements

  • Strong data analysis and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable pitching ideas.
  • Strong writing background and grammar skills.
  • Able to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • On-screen experience/comfort.
  • 5-7 years of experience in automotive journalism and optimizing writing for SEO, including headlines and keyword search.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML.
  • Strong familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress or similar).
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
