Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in audio and video storytelling for a daily podcast or radio show
  • Professional background in video journalism, podcast production, and digital storytelling
  • Strong shooting and editing skills
  • Deep understanding of and interest in the Journal’s core coverage areas (personal finance, money topics)
  • Strong editorial judgment and broad knowledge of current events
  • Strong editorial skills, including experience in research, fact-checking, and sculpting longform interviews both before and after recordings
  • Professional experience writing headlines, captions, and scripts for stories under tight time constraints
  • Experience developing and launching new products
  • Professional-level understanding of Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, or other DAWs
  • Professional experience using Premiere (strong plus)

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the show’s host, Supervising Producer, and coverage chiefs to initiate and develop original story ideas, including special series, interactive/immersive content, and external events
  • Play a key role in production and post-production: pitching stories, booking/pre-interviewing guests, writing scripts, recording interviews, editing sound and video, and posting to platforms
  • Conduct remote recordings, in-studio interviews, and field work
  • Contribute to promotion by creating promos, sizzle reels, and social media assets including videos
  • Interview WSJ reporters and sources, coaching those without audio/video experience
  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of development and production
  • Ensure all content is accurate, fact-checked, meets highest production value, and follows WSJ journalistic/legal standards
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including supporting other WSJ podcast productions
  • Fill in as host and/or contribute on mic
