Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in a Law Firm and in house Legal department in China with significant hands-on experience in media or related areas
  • Admitted to practice law in China (US, UK and other English-speaking jurisdictions considered, but knowledge of Chinese law and process is a requirement)
  • Understanding of local regulatory landscape
  • Understanding of the legal and business customs and practices of a US-based multinational enterprise
  • A proven leader and manager in setting direction and achieving objectives
  • Keen analytical insight and strong legal capability
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills with the ability to work under deadlines and execute efficiently against multiple high priority projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to evaluate and reconcile issues from the business unit and enterprise level perspective and to work in an environment with a high degree of confidentiality
  • A strong team lead and able to interact well in a matrix structure, with colleagues of diverse cultural backgrounds and work styles
  • Ability to analyze problems effectively and take action to resolve issues. Must demonstrate flexibility in response to change
  • Ability to concisely convey complex issues and offer recommendations and risk analysis. Must be proactive

Responsibilities

  • Provision of general commercial advice including contract, consumer and corporate law advice. Knowledge of competition law, data privacy and antitrust law helpful. May work on government affairs issues and support of all areas within local scope
  • Local management of any litigation, issues or risk areas impacting the business
  • Liaise with local authorities on the application and compliance of local laws and regulations and train the business accordingly
  • Advise the business on appropriate processes to manage risk and contract commercially
  • Excellent review, drafting and negotiating skills
  • Drive a ‘continuous improvement’ culture with the business, ensuring processes, policies and procedures sufficiently protect the business from current and future risk
  • Collaborate with business/functional leaders on creative solutions to complex operational challenges. Establishes collaborative relationships with other subject matters expert teams within the business or external organizations
  • Support senior executives and heads of business lines
