AI Tutor in Materials Science

Employment Type: Contract Location Type: Fully Remote Compensation Range: $55/hr - $100/hr


Position Overview

As an AI Tutor in Materials Science, your insights will directly contribute to the training of AI in chemistry, physics, and engineering applications. You’ll help AI better understand structure-property relationships, materials design, and experimental methods. This is a contract remote position with variable time commitments. The services to be provided by the Contractor under this agreement are supplementary and not integral to Handshake’s primary business operations. The Contractor’s services are distinct and separate from the core business activities of Handshake.


Your Role

  • Review AI-labeled content across materials science and engineering topics.
  • Apply technical knowledge to assess accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Support the development of AI tools used in research and applied science.
  • Provide structured annotations and feedback using proprietary platforms.
  • Collaborate with AI researchers to refine task specifications.

Requirements

  • Education: PhD (or ABD) in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Applied Physics.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex technical topics.
    • Familiarity with both computational and experimental methods.
    • Excitement for bridging research and AI innovation.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Ability to quickly adapt to new skills and evolving requirements.
    • Personal device must support Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur 11.0 or later.
    • Reliable access to a smartphone.

  • Research experience with published work in a reputable journal.
  • Previous AI tutoring experience.
  • Teaching experience (professor, teacher, or tutor).
  • Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional writing.

  • Location: Fully remote position.
