Supabase is an open-source Firebase alternative focused on empowering developers to build scalable applications. We are a fully remote company and are seeking an AI Tooling Engineer with strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript to help build and maintain high-quality AI tools and integrations with Supabase. This role will be crucial in shaping developer experiences in the AI era, collaborating with multiple teams and AI partners to bring their AI initiatives to life.

Requirements

• Strong experience in JavaScript/TypeScript: Essential for developing and maintaining AI tools and integrations.
• Up-to-date knowledge of AI trends and best practices: Understanding of current advancements in the AI field is crucial.
• Familiarity with Postgres and database best practices: Experience with Postgres is required due to Supabase's core technology.
• Experience with vector databases and embeddings: Specifically with vector databases and extensions like pgvector.
• Experience with the JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem: Knowledge of npm, ES modules, bundlers, and browser compatibility.
• Strong focus on writing tests: Experience with testing frameworks like Vitest or similar, ensuring high test coverage.
• Familiarity with networking concepts: Understanding of HTTP, WebSockets, and authentication mechanisms.
• Experience working with open-source projects or maintaining developer tools: Prior experience in this area is beneficial.
• Strong communication skills: Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with teams and partners.
• Passion for building developer-friendly tools and experiences: A genuine interest in creating tools that benefit developers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Supabase’s AI tools, such as the MCP server.
• Develop and maintain Supabase’s AI assistant within the dashboard.
• Centralize AI logic across Supabase’s products and services.
• Design and implement evaluation frameworks (evals) to measure AI performance, accuracy, and reliability.
• Create/update AI & vector guides.
• Create content/integrations with partners.
• Ensure all libraries and tools are fully battle-tested, with comprehensive test coverage, benchmarking, and stress testing.
• Write clear, high-quality documentation and guides.
• Work closely with open-source communities, gather feedback, and iterate on improvements.
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem.
