Requirements

  • Currently studying a Degree in Aerospace engineering, Aeronautical engineering, Mechanical engineering, General engineering, Maths, Physics or other related subject
  • Aerodynamics and propulsion based modules are most relevant (such as Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Aircraft Performance, Flight Dynamics & Control etc.)
  • A passion for aerodynamics and propulsion
  • The ability to clearly communicate and present ideas including preparing technical presentations and reports

Responsibilities

  • Receive mentorship and support from aerodynamicists to learn cutting-edge aerodynamic techniques for designing missiles
  • Undertake a placement project exposing you to areas such as: design of missiles across development stages (concept, assessment, development, in-service)
  • Application and development of bespoke tools alongside commercial software to evaluate airframe performance
  • Exploration of stealth, propulsion, thermal and structural aspects in a multi-disciplinary missile design approach
  • Missile integration onto land, naval and air platforms
  • Integration of solid rocket motors and air-breathing engines into missile airframes, assessing impact on aerodynamics and performance
  • Work on a self-contained project applying university knowledge to industry-specific problems, delivering relevant conclusions to the aerodynamic team
