Ability to conduct thorough patient assessments and provide basic life support (BLS) care
Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) qualified for 911 emergency response
Proficiency in operating ambulances safely per New Jersey motor vehicle laws and department policies
Skills in accurate documentation using electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) systems
Capability to work full-time nights (40 hours/week) in a fast-paced, high-impact environment with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities, including infection control and decontamination

Responsibilities

Conducts thorough patient assessments and provides appropriate basic life support (BLS) care in accordance with New Jersey Statewide EMS Protocols and medical command directives
Administers high-quality, evidence-based care while ensuring patient safety and comfort
Operates an ambulance safely and professionally in accordance with New Jersey motor vehicle laws and department driving policies, demonstrating defensive driving and situational awareness
Ensures the vehicle remains operational, fueled, properly equipped, and reports mechanical issues promptly
Accurately and thoroughly documents patient assessments, interventions, patient responses, and transfer of care using the department’s ePCR system, meeting regulatory standards
Promptly responds to quality assurance and medical oversight requests
Conducts and documents vehicle and equipment checks at the start of each shift, ensuring proper stocking and reporting shortages
Maintains all Virtua-owned medical equipment, vehicles, and facilities in a safe, clean, and organized manner, following infection control protocols and decontaminating after transports
Actively participates in training and onboarding of new staff, students, and inter-agency personnel, providing mentorship and constructive feedback
