Requirements

  • Ability to teach in-person on Saturdays from 9:00am-4:00pm at UC Law campus in San Francisco (200 McAllister St, off Civic Center BART)
  • Availability for instructor orientation (9th Grade: 2/28, 9:00am-2:00pm; 10th Grade: 1/24, 9:00-2:00pm) and all Saturday Academy sessions (9th Grade: 8 sessions from 3/14 to 5/9; 10th Grade: 10 sessions from 1/31 to 5/9)
  • Commitment to up to 10 hours per week, including ~6 standard hours on-site and up to 4 flex hours for prep, grading, etc
  • Proficiency in navigating instructional technologies such as Brightspace (LMS), Nearpod, GSuit applications, and Zoom chat in a Blended Learning environment
  • Ability to teach four 50-minute lessons per session to groups of 25-30 9th or 10th grade students using provided curricula ("Personal & Social Identities" for 9th Grade; "Identity & Mental Health" for 10th Grade)

Responsibilities

  • Teach four periods of Identity & Empowerment instructional content, follow provided lesson plans, meet lesson objectives, abide by SEO’s criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement, hold students to high expectations, use protocols for student-driven discussion and group work, and promote depth of understanding via questioning
  • Learn and efficiently utilize instructional technologies such as Brightspace, Nearpod, GSuit applications, and Zoom chat in a Blended Learning environment
  • Read, internalize, and practice all lesson plans and materials provided by SEO prior to teaching; implement thoughtful adjustments to pacing and activities based on specific student needs
  • Calculate grades according to rubrics and stipulations in lesson plans, provide actionable growth-oriented feedback to students, complete all grading within 1 week, and keep the electronic gradebook up to date on Brightspace
  • Project an energetic, engaging, and approachable persona to promote students’ connection to the content, investment in the learning experience, and positive relationships with all class members
  • Implement a rigorous college-prep curriculum using a student-centered approach, serving as a coach and facilitator of learning to support Scholars’ journey to competitive colleges and beyond
