Requirements

  • Medical Doctorate (MD) and medical specialization required
  • 10+ years (industry preferred) clinical development experience
  • Internal Medicine subspecialty training and clinical development experience preferred
  • Demonstrates a strong network and connectivity to Biotech and mid-size pharma market and key stakeholders (CMOs and CSOs of such companies)
  • Experience managing client relationships is critical
  • Thorough understanding of overall biologic/pharmaceutical product development

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the West Coast Regional Medical Officer for PPD Biotech, focusing on business development, client engagement, and sustained relationship efforts
  • Delivers strategic value to Biotech clients from an industry experienced medical and scientific leadership perspective, aligned with West Coast Region commercial and sales objectives
  • Provides clinical guidance and credibility to Biotech business development
  • Interacts with client Therapeutic Area Heads, CMOs, and senior development staff to understand needs, communicate optimal integrated service offerings, develop best-in-class proposals, and offer strategic programmatic and trial-level clinical advice
  • Uses scientific and clinical expertise to drive sales performance through strong scientific engagement and personal networks in industry, AROs, NGOs, government, and academia
  • Builds and maintains credibility for PPD within the West Coast Region Biotech community
  • Serves as extension of the Global Medical Officer and Biotech Leadership Team, acting as executive sponsor for high-profile West Coast Region accounts
  • Collaborates with the Global Medical Officer on proposal development and bid defense for key business opportunities, attends sponsor meetings, and provides medicines and device development consultation
  • Serves as regional medical market leader for business development, playing a leadership role in developing and retaining new accounts
  • Works with key stakeholders to develop strategic selling opportunities and leads regional client events focused on medical scientific topics under the PPD Biotech brand
  • Partners with business development in a technical sales role, providing clients access to Biotech-focused clinical expertise to increase credibility
  • Supports commercial objectives and shares a sales target with the commercial head of PPD Biotech West Coast Region (US West Coast plus Mountain Time zone states)
  • Builds a strong scientific network within the West Coast Region Biotech community
  • Interfaces effectively with key internal directorates (Operations, Biometrics, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Global Product Development) to develop best proposals and plans
  • Ensures proper level of scientific support in award and execution processes
  • Promotes innovation and works with Global Medical Officer to improve efficiency and effectiveness with Biotech client base
  • Establishes strategy and direction for assigned areas in alignment with senior management strategic plans
  • Develops and manages interpersonal relationships to influence decisions of senior leaders within and outside the company
