Requirements

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field, with at least 15 years of progressive R&D leadership experience in CPG, dietary supplements, or health-focused cosmetics, specifically requiring hair category experience. A proven track record in developing and launching consumer products at scale, deep knowledge of ingredient science, formulation, and scale-up processes, and experience partnering with external manufacturers and suppliers are essential. Understanding of cGMP, FDA regulations, DSHEA, and cosmetic regulatory standards, along with the ability to work cross-functionally in a high-growth, agile environment and a strong commercial and consumer-focused mindset are also required.

Responsibilities

The VP of R&D Formulation will lead and scale formulation efforts for supplements and cosmetics, managing a team of formulators and scientists to oversee product formulation, prototyping, sensory testing, stability studies, and scale-up trials. Key responsibilities include designing and optimizing formulations, troubleshooting issues, defining and executing the R&D strategy in alignment with business objectives, and partnering effectively with cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Product Development, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, and Supply Chain. The role also involves ensuring compliance with FDA regulations and quality requirements, building and mentoring a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative culture, overseeing product feasibility, stability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, driving partnerships with co-manufacturers and suppliers, establishing KPIs for formulation timelines and performance, managing R&D budgets, and serving as a thought leader for new formats, categories, and technologies, presenting to executive and board-level stakeholders.
