  • Description: Seeking an experienced and passionate doula to educate and guide members through their pregnancy and postpartum journey. This role operates within a clinical/medical setting, requiring collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and adherence to prenatal and postpartum evidence-based standards of care. The doula will support the Black Health Communities and Care and Case Management programs, aiming to improve member outcomes. The position involves ongoing strategic input and innovation to continually evaluate and enhance member service and outcome impact.

Requirements

  • Certification: Must be certified as a birth doula by DONA International, CAPPA, CBI, or ICEA.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a doula.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Proficient in current clinical evidence-based obstetric practices as established by professional organizations such as ACOG and SMFM.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to adapt traditional doula support models for a virtual-only format.
  • Community Focus: Demonstrated experience in problem-solving and advocating for members of the Black community.
  • Technology Skills: Competent with technology and experienced with multiple computer/medical record systems.
  • Remote Work Experience: Prior experience working remotely is required.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Compliance: Strict adherence to security and HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Support Delivery: Provide culturally-representative prenatal and postpartum support and education via phone and messaging within a structured doula workflow.
  • Member Care Support: Assist members with their chosen prenatal care and delivery plans (e.g., OBGYN, CNM, Group Prenatal Care/Centering, Hospital delivery, Birth Center delivery).
  • Birth Planning Guidance: Educate members on birth planning and help them formulate advocacy questions for their prenatal care team.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive member support.
  • Virtual Support Adaptation: Modify traditional doula support models for a virtual-only format to reach pregnant patients without alternative access to doula care.
  • Efficiency and Quality: Build rapport with members quickly through telephonic communication and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, meeting volume goals while maintaining high quality.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and manage competing priorities.
