Candidates should possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with a minimum of 10 years of experience in data engineering, demonstrating a proven track record of building and scaling data-intensive applications. Expertise in big data technologies such as Hadoop, Apache Spark (Scala preferred), Python, Apache Hive, or similar frameworks on the cloud (GCP preferred, AWS, Azure etc.) is required, alongside knowledge of data governance and data privacy best practices. Strong SQL skills and data modeling expertise are necessary for designing schemas accommodating data evolution and seamless data joins.
As a Principal Data Engineer, the role involves architecting, designing, and implementing high-performance data pipelines and ETL processes for people data, developing and maintaining data infrastructure and platforms ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. The position requires close collaboration with stakeholders to understand business requirements, championing data quality and governance, mentoring junior data engineers, and staying current with industry trends. Additionally, the role entails creating a vision statement for a large data lake and designing a blueprint to modernize data strategy, contributing to the development of data strategy and roadmap, and interacting with Walmart engineering teams across geographies.
