Requirements

  • Ability to identify vision defects (e.g., injury, disease, abnormality), prescribe/fit/adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, vision aids
  • Competence in ordering/interpreting diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma testing, macular degeneration, OCT) and providing treatments (e.g., foreign body removal)
  • Skills in developing evidence-based treatment plans
  • Experience delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining confidential patient records in systems (e.g., BOSS)
  • Knowledge of state/local/federal healthcare regulations and Walmart vision center guidelines
  • Ability to perform administrative/retail tasks (e.g., financial transactions, patient registration, retail sales)
  • Leadership skills in analyzing business objectives, developing/implementing strategies, managing costs/forecasts/resources, evaluating processes, promoting customer environment
  • Capabilities in workforce development (e.g., recruiting, talent development, mentorship, succession planning)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based vision care and treatments to ensure patient health/wellbeing
  • Perform comprehensive eye examinations and evaluations
  • Prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and vision aids
  • Order, interpret, and assess diagnostic tests; provide additional treatments as needed
  • Educate patients and store associates on eye health
  • Recommend follow-ups, provide referrals, and coordinate with health professionals
  • Maintain/update patient information accurately and confidentially
  • Assist vision center staff (e.g., opticians) with best practices
  • Ensure adherence to regulations and guidelines
  • Perform administrative and retail tasks for the vision center
  • Collaborate with internal (e.g., pharmacists, management) and external stakeholders for coordinated patient care
  • Provide overall business direction: analyze objectives/needs, develop/implement strategies, manage resources/outcomes
  • Attract/maintain skilled workforce through recruitment, development, mentorship
