Traveling Construction Superintendent

Position Overview

Warfel Construction is seeking a Traveling Construction Superintendent to oversee all phases of construction at various project locations. This role requires frequent travel and extended stays at project sites. The Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed successfully within budget and schedule, while maintaining excellent quality and strict adherence to all safety rules and regulations. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, deep construction knowledge, effective team and subcontractor management skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with trade partners.

Travel Logistics

  • Willingness to travel frequently and be stationed at project sites as required.
  • Ability to coordinate with local authorities, inspectors, and utility providers.
  • Adaptability to different regional regulations and work environments.
  • Capability to work with remote Project Management Teams and adhere to company standard operating procedures.

Work Schedule

  • Standard work hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Occasional Saturday work and overtime may be required.
  • Ability to work in ever-changing environments, including variable weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret project plans and specifications.
  • Analyze construction methods and scheduling for details and sequences of work.
  • Promote a culture of jobsite safety and demand safe work practices from all personnel onsite.
  • Rectify jobsite hazards immediately and ensure adherence to all safety procedures by Warfel employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure designated safety personnel conduct regular safety inspections and reviews.
  • Empower employees with a culture of safety as a top priority and be proactive with safety for Warfel employees.
  • Conduct weekly Toolbox Talks.
  • Maintain detailed Daily Logs for work occurring onsite.
  • Create 3-week lookahead schedules weekly and assist project management staff with overall schedule updates.
  • Proactively communicate upcoming work with subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Maintain direct contact with trade subcontractors and vendors to schedule deliveries and manpower.
  • Inform project management staff of any unusual circumstances or issues that may cause delays.
  • Coordinate with Director of Field Operations, Foreman, and Project Manager regarding manpower, equipment, and supplies.
  • Establish and maintain dimensional controls for the project, potentially using third-party surveyors or layout personnel.
  • Supervise subcontractor workmanship to ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, and Warfel quality standards.
  • Review subcontractor shop drawings and field measurements to confirm design requirements before fabrication.
  • Purchase miscellaneous jobsite materials, rough hardware, and supplies as authorized by the Project Manager.
  • Ensure no extra work or deviations from contract documents are made without proper Project Manager authorization.
  • Promptly bring Client and Architect requests for changes to the Project Manager's attention for schedule and cost implication discussions.
  • Meet with client representatives as appropriate to discuss project status and address questions.
  • Liaise with Project Management staff to relay information to the client.
