Requirements

Experience architecting large-scale distributed systems from first principles
Expertise in designing scalable, cost-efficient services across compute, storage, and networking
Proficiency in defining deployment and runtime patterns (containers, orchestration, IaC, secrets, CI/CD)
Skills in building systems for observability and reliability (metrics, logs, traces, SLOs, recovery patterns)
Ability to lead postmortems, define error budgets, and drive operational excellence
Knowledge of architecting data pipelines for ingestion, validation, and transformation
Experience defining schemas, data contracts, validation, lineage, and drift detection
Capability to model complex domains (e.g., accounting concepts) into ontologies, entities, relationships, and invariants
Strong leadership in holding architectural vision, running design reviews, mentoring engineers, and simplifying complexity
Location: NYC (in-person, Flatiron office)

Responsibilities

Architect and evolve infrastructure foundations, including scalable services for compute, storage, and networking
Define deployment and runtime patterns (containers, orchestration, IaC, secrets, CI/CD)
Build systems for observability and reliability (metrics, logs, traces, SLOs, recovery patterns)
Lead postmortems, define error budgets, and ensure operational excellence
Architect data pipelines that ingest, validate, and transform accounting data into reliable datasets
Define schemas and data contracts balancing flexibility and correctness; encode validation, lineage, and drift detection
Build interfaces making data discoverable, computable, and observable end-to-end
Translate accounting concepts into structured ontologies, entities, relationships, and invariants
Create abstractions for AI systems to reason safely about real-world constraints
Design for legibility through schema, code, and documentation
Hold the architectural vision for core infrastructure areas and ensure coherence over time
Run design reviews to challenge assumptions and drive alignment
Mentor engineers on system reasoning (load testing, schema design, observability)
Simplify aggressively, removing accidental complexity and enforcing clean, stable abstractions
Lead by example through code, design reviews, and decision records
