Software Engineer, Distributed Systems
MixpanelFull Time
Junior (1 to 2 years)
Candidates must possess a B.S. or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering field, coupled with at least 5 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary environment with a strong focus on software systems engineering for complex systems. Familiarity with mission design principles, spacecraft systems, and remote sensing instruments/pipelines is required, along with experience managing requirements for multi-disciplinary projects. A strong understanding of software architecture principles and demonstrated project management skills are also essential.
The Systems Engineer (Software) will support the full lifecycle of multiple Muon missions, from formulation to on-orbit monitoring, with a special emphasis on ensuring the robustness and integration of flight and ground software and data processing architectures. Responsibilities include interacting with customers and cross-functional teams to develop requirements and ICDs, performing system modeling, developing test plans, identifying and reducing program risk, and tailoring mission design processes to specific program needs. The role also involves translating system-level requirements into software definitions, mapping capabilities against architectures, defining software interfaces, managing subsystem budgets including software resources, supporting software verification and validation, assessing design changes, preparing for reviews, monitoring on-orbit systems, and contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering processes.
Designs and operates satellite constellations
Muon Space designs, deploys, and operates satellite constellations to provide Earth Intelligence that helps protect people, the climate, and ecosystems. Their services include creating mission strategies, building satellite systems, and managing these systems using their own AI automation technology. This approach allows them to deliver high performance and reliability while keeping costs low and speeding up satellite launches. Unlike many competitors, Muon Space focuses on understanding and solving their clients' specific needs rather than just selling satellite products. They operate on a pay-as-you-go model, which includes the development and operation of satellite constellations and the data generated from them. The team at Muon Space has significant experience from leading organizations like NASA, Google, and SpaceX, which enhances their capability to deliver valuable insights to clients in areas such as climate change, security, and resource management.
