Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a similar field, coupled with over 2 years of relevant work experience. Essential skills include proficiency in Python programming, API design, relational database technologies (such as Postgres or MySQL), and robust Linux skills. Experience with peer-reviewed code maintenance, continuous integration and deployment workflows and tooling (like GitLab CI and Docker), and a strong attention to quality through automated testing, code review, and documentation are also required. The ability to be a self-starter in a dynamic environment and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams is crucial.

Responsibilities

The Software Engineer will maintain and augment the automation and services responsible for operating Planet's satellites. This includes specifying and implementing new HTTP APIs, evaluating and selecting appropriate software technologies, and designing and deploying critical infrastructure. The role involves contributing to a team that values open communication and collaboration, working closely with various teams like Satellite and Ground Operations, Pipeline, and Product to ensure the satellite constellation meets mission needs.
