Staff Software Engineer - Partner Engineering

Position Overview

Flex is a growth-stage, NYC-headquartered FinTech company dedicated to creating the best rent payment experience. About the Role

Flex is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Partner Engineering organization. You will be instrumental in building out our payment integrations platform and user experiences. This role involves shaping the technical roadmap, working across APIs, SDKs, and Web experiences. You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, Design, Infrastructure, Sales, Partner, and Customer Success teams to deliver exceptional products. We expect you to be hands-on, execute work independently, and build flexible products that accommodate future evolution.

Key Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 6 years in software engineering.
    • Minimum of 4 years with Java.
    • Proven experience leading the end-to-end delivery of multiple highly impactful products with a high quality bar and on-time delivery.
    • Experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, successfully aligning expectations on scope and delivery.
    • Experience in FinTech and familiarity with major payment rails.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Ability to drive personal and team code and architecture quality and consistency without compromising velocity.
    • Proficiency in Java frameworks and tools used at Flex, including Spring (core/web/boot), Gradle, JUnit, and JVM (memory/performance tuning, GC).
    • Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture, REST APIs, Message Queues, and scalable architectures.
    • Experience with AWS (EKS, Aurora RDS, Elasticache, DynamoDB) and containerization tools.
  • Work Environment:
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
    • Ability to work effectively on a globally-distributed team with a high degree of ownership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on cross-functional teams involving product, design, and engineering.
  • Proficiency in Java (Spring Boot), TypeScript (React.js/React Native).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines to improve code stability and quality.
  • Experience with cloud and containerized environments (Bonus: AWS, Kubernetes, MySQL).
  • Comfortable working with IDEs such as VSCode, IntelliJ, XCode, and Android Studio.
  • Motivated to drive team effectiveness and engineering excellence.

Compensation

  • Salary Range (NY/NJ/CA): $221,000 - $237,000
  • Salary Range (All Other States): $199,000 - $213,000
  • Compensation will be commensurate with candidate experience and Flex's internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks.
