Requirements

Candidates must possess a BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience, with 12+ years of relevant software development experience. A minimum of 3 years of development involving SDKs, language libraries, or other client-side applications is required, along with proficiency in C/C++ and deep technical knowledge of at least two programming languages. Experience with additional languages such as Python, Golang, Javascript, Rust, Ruby, or .Net is advantageous. The role also requires the ability to influence teams and management through effective communication and collaboration, and proven experience in leading and mentoring technical teams.

Responsibilities

The Staff Software Engineer will build and enhance open-source libraries around Kafka using the low-level Kafka protocol and improve various language libraries for better standards and more usable APIs. Responsibilities include collaborating effectively across engineering, product, and field teams to create and execute impactful roadmaps, providing technical leadership and mentorship, driving strong teamwork, and integrating long-term needs from open-source and partner teams into technical plans. The engineer will also identify and manage technical debt and long-term projects.
