Candidates must have at least 6 years of experience as a software engineer. Strong fluency in event-driven system design patterns using technologies like Kafka, Flink, and Debezium is required, along with proficiency in JVM languages such as Kotlin or Java. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of database choice and schema design for scalable applications, and an intrinsic interest in leveraging new tools to enhance work efficiency and quality. A passion for blockchain technology, NFTs, and digital ownership is a significant plus.
The Staff Backend Engineer will form, communicate, and execute a technical vision for the next generation of OpenSea’s architecture, focusing on scalable and event-driven patterns. They will write reliable, low latency marketplace infrastructure software capable of processing billions of dollars in transactions daily, including blockchain indexing systems and order management systems. The engineer will also raise the bar for best practices in building performant and event-driven systems, mentor and train team members, and act as an internal thought leader for architectural rigor.
