Requirements

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience, with over 5 years in professional software engineering. A minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare data integrations, specifically with FHIR, is required, along with deep expertise in Java and distributed systems like Spark and Kafka. Familiarity with cloud services (AWS preferred), Docker, Kubernetes, performance tuning, debugging distributed systems, REST APIs, HL7 v2, CDA, and Kafka is also necessary. Experience with EHR or Claims integrations and data lake technologies is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Staff FHIR Gateway Engineer will design and build FHIR integrations, developing and maintaining data pipelines for ingesting, validating, and transforming FHIR resources. They will architect distributed, cloud-native solutions using Java, Kafka, Spark, and Kubernetes, while championing data quality and compliance, including HIPAA security and privacy. Responsibilities also include optimizing and troubleshooting batch and real-time workflows, mentoring peers, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and staying current with evolving FHIR standards to influence internal adoption.
