Candidates must have 10+ years of backend engineering experience with proven expertise in designing and scaling video platforms, including WebRTC, SFU/MCU architectures, streaming protocols, TURN/STUN, and real-time QoS optimizations. A strong distributed systems background with microservices, APIs, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), and event-driven architectures is essential, along with proficiency in backend languages like Go, Java, Scala, or Python. Experience building reliable, fault-tolerant, real-time systems, setting technical vision, influencing strategy, leading complex projects, and communicating effectively with customers and cross-functional teams is also required.
The Staff Engineer will lead the architecture and development of large-scale backend systems for live video and virtual visits, ensuring high availability, resilience, and low latency. Responsibilities include designing APIs, services, and infrastructure, partnering with product and design teams to deliver seamless experiences, and guiding innovation in video quality and integrations. The role involves mentoring engineers, evaluating new technologies in real-time communication, and collaborating with security and compliance teams to ensure HIPAA and SOC2 compliance.
