Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master’s or Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline, with M.S. holders requiring 10+ years of industry experience and Ph.D. holders needing 6+ years of relevant experience in applied science, data science, or machine learning engineering roles. Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas is required: Auction Design & Optimization, Targeting, Personalization & Lookalike Modeling, Ads Creative & Format Evaluation, or Measurement.

Responsibilities

The Staff Data Scientist will drive strategic impact across ads domains by taking end-to-end ownership of complex problem spaces such as auction optimization, auto-bidding, ad creative performance, personalization, and targeting. They will develop and deploy predictive models, optimization frameworks, and decision-support systems to power Reddit’s ad platform and marketplace health, translating ambiguity into measurable outcomes by defining core business and performance metrics and designing robust methodologies to measure the impact of product and modeling changes. This role involves collaborating deeply with engineering, product, and sales to align on strategic goals, translate insights into action, and drive execution, as well as leading through cross-functional and technical influence by mentoring others and championing best practices. Finally, the Staff Data Scientist will drive innovation in ad systems by leveraging causal inference, auction theory, and large-scale data systems to solve novel problems in a rapidly evolving ad marketplace.
