Requirements

  • Assist homeless Veterans or Veterans at risk of homelessness
  • Provide litigation, representation in administrative fora, and advocacy for Queens resident Veterans
  • Act as a generalist, engaging at least occasionally in most practice areas
  • Primary focus on housing preservation and alleviation of homelessness for clients
  • Staff an onsite legal clinic at the St. Alban’s VA Medical Center or other designated site
  • Occasionally engage in community outreach and education events
  • Make home, hospital, and nursing home visits to meet with clients
  • Provide leadership on policy issues around veterans’ housing and homelessness, veterans’ preferences and protections under New York State law, and comprehensive legal services for veterans

Responsibilities

  • Help Veterans, active-duty service members, and their families preserve housing, maximize financial entitlements and income (Veteran-related and non-Veteran benefits), and combat consumer issues like student loan debt
  • Partner with the VA on projects
  • Commit to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) efforts, learn about, understand, and work to realize DEIB goals
