Requirements

Candidates must be motivated self-starters experienced with a wide variety of underground environments, including hidden services and forums. They need experience with the full Intelligence Cycle, including collection, dissemination, and evaluation of raw information. A basic to advanced understanding of computer technology, virtual machines, Internet protocols, and services is required, along with comprehensive, practical knowledge of research/collection tradecraft and analytical methods. Comfort navigating the deep and dark web, leveraging onion search engines, using VPNs, understanding cryptocurrencies, and utilizing communication platforms is essential. Experience using project management tools like JIRA, message traffic handling systems, and databases is also required. Experience with foreign language skills, particularly reading and writing in Russian, Farsi, or multiple dialects of Chinese, is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Security Researcher will support and advise on technical and non-technical collection activities to produce finished intelligence products and respond to information requests. They will leverage operational tradecraft to develop and maintain unique sources of cyber threat intelligence and enable threat analysis. Responsibilities include monitoring and responding to internal and external RFIs and collection support tasks, triaging tickets, and ensuring collection requirements are tasked appropriately and completed on time. The role involves identifying where novel collection activities can address intelligence gaps and employing secure virtual operational tradecraft methods for research. Maintaining awareness of threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures is crucial for assessing the quality and credibility of operators, toolsets, and services, as well as identifying current and emerging cyber threats and trends.
