Requirements

  • Professional licensure as a nurse (e.g., RN or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of occupational health nursing practices, including assessment, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of care
  • Understanding of legal, labor, regulatory, and corporate requirements
  • Ability to function as a clinical case manager coordinating care across multiple systems
  • Familiarity with work environments, employee social/family systems, and cost-effective quality care delivery

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with management and Environmental, Health and Safety staff to achieve corporate objectives
  • Acts as a professional health resource for management in planning and maintaining health initiatives and programs
  • Provides initial assessment of occupational injuries, illnesses, and exposures; treats or refers as necessary per clinical guidelines
  • Assesses client needs (physical, psychosocial) using data from various sources like claims, health records, and providers
  • Assesses non-occupational sudden illnesses at work and guides employees to appropriate care
  • Develops nursing care plans and prevention/health promotion strategies to optimize health and prevent injuries/illnesses
  • Develops processes for early intervention to maximize outcomes
  • Identifies client goals and implements case management interventions within designated time frames
  • Coordinates nursing process for consistent documentation of treatment and administrative aspects
  • Establishes communication plans with internal/external parties
  • Monitors and evaluates outcomes and quality of services by health care providers and vendors
  • Collaborates with providers and third parties for appropriate care, treatment, and follow-up based on work environment knowledge
  • Assists with return-to-work issues, including restrictions, modified scheduling, and accommodations
  • Provides health-related counseling to supervisors and employees within nursing scope
  • Conducts workplace walkthroughs/assessments and exposure follow-up
  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality of business and protected health information
  • Participates in developing policies, procedures, and work instructions
