  • Mentoring skills: updating engineers on process technology, team development through training, coaching, conducting appraisals, promoting career pathing
  • Technology management expertise: preparing shelved technology, introducing new products/technology, identifying new applications, bench marking processes, defining/analyzing tests/mock-ups, using statistical methods & D.O.E., documenting procedures/results
  • Problem prevention capabilities: reviewing projects for pokayoke/in-process checks, timely issue resolution, establishing problem boundaries, creating 8D teams, structured problem solving (TOPS or 5-P), permanent system changes, updating flow charts/control plans/operator instructions
  • Customer relations skills, including RFQ competencies

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise, leadership, and direction to manufacturing engineers in a team environment
  • Coordinate manufacturing engineering resources to support operations and Customer Product Teams on complex projects
  • Assure forefront position in state-of-the-art manufacturing technology for continuous improvement
  • Maintain prototype lab area, support design & production intent production, maintain cost reduction program through specification changes, manufacturability & process improvements to achieve BBOS goals, ensure proven/shelved technology in new designs
  • Provide timely project updates to management, maintain project timing status, keep management aware of program plans, ensure on-time completion and cost targets, support AQP process
  • Develop project plans & capital A/R consistent with value creation, quality, and delivery; identify/communicate/resolve issues; ensure error-free launches; monitor supplier progress and milestone reviews; manage tooling releases; assure training for production/operator/set-up/maintenance personnel; establish process capability & acceptance; provide long-term capability systems; establish implementation costs/timing; estimate operational costs/quality; document information; obtain quotes, select suppliers, place POs ensuring BWA standards, safety, and acceptance
  • Mentor engineers: update on state-of-the-art technology, provide training for current/future needs, coach on issues, conduct appraisals with peer/functional manager input, promote career pathing
  • Manage technology: prepare shelved technology for production, bring new products/technology to production, identify new applications for review, lead benchmarking, define/analyze tests/mock-ups with statistical methods/D.O.E., document procedures/results/conclusions, maintain/communicate strategies
  • Review engineer projects for pokayoke/in-process checks; ensure timely problem handling, proper boundaries, 8D teams with structured solving (TOPS/5-P); implement permanent changes; update flow charts, control plans, operator instructions
  • Handle customer relations, including RFQ processes
