Candidates must possess a J.D. degree and be a member of a state bar in good standing, or possess a foreign equivalent. A minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience is required, including experience as in-house counsel and substantial advising on global privacy issues across multiple jurisdictions, particularly concerning data privacy and security. Experience working with regulators and responding to regulatory inquiries is essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to drive impact and engagement with limited resources, balance multiple projects simultaneously, build consensus across cross-functional teams, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills for distilling nuanced concepts and delivering presentations. Bonus points are awarded for experience in the online advertising industry, high fluency in internet technologies and software development, and CIPP or related certifications.
The Sr. Counsel - Privacy will advise on Mozilla’s product, business, and ecosystem needs, covering global products and internal systems including Firefox, subscription and ads products, and data science and research efforts. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing risk-based privacy strategies in partnership with internal teams, evaluating and reporting on global privacy-related legislative and regulatory developments, and designing and evolving global privacy compliance programs. The role involves leading privacy risk assessments such as DPIAs and TIAs, drafting and maintaining legal terms, privacy policies, notices, and training materials, and embedding privacy-by-design principles into workflows and product development. Additionally, the counsel will work with commercial legal teams on advertiser agreements, provide privacy advice in M&A transactions, and assist with post-close integration activities.
