Responsibilities

  • Break significant sports news, from Orioles headlines to high-profile local sports events
  • Serve as the backup Orioles reporter, traveling to ~35% of away games and attending ~60% of home games (adjusted based on breaking news and story potential)
  • Produce compelling features, profiles, and enterprise pieces that reveal the “why” behind the action
  • Monitor the local sports scene, uncovering stories our readers didn’t know they wanted; stay current on news surrounding local stars like Angel Reese and Gervonta Davis to produce unique coverage
  • Collaborate with The Banner’s engagement and data teams to maximize audience reach and impact across platforms
  • Partner with editors and reporters across coverage areas where sports intersect business, culture, and community
  • Engage audiences via video, podcasts, and social media to build a vibrant, interactive connection with readers
  • Cover Baltimore-area sports with depth, creativity, and rigor, including Orioles’ clubhouse, boxing gyms, horse tracks, college arenas, business of sports, cultural and community impact
