Requirements

  • At least 8 years of industry experience (not an early career position)
  • Experience in areas such as databases, distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and data infrastructure
  • Strong background in computer science with a degree in CS or a related field
  • Based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City (depending on team match)
  • Open to hybrid working model with ~2-3 days/week in the office for team collaboration
  • Excited about learning new technologies and applying them in a fast-changing environment
  • Leadership experience (for Base Infrastructure team)
  • Interest in distributed systems and databases (for Storage team)
  • Familiarity with technologies like Apache Spark, Kafka, Apache Flink (for Data Infrastructure team)
  • Familiarity with RDS MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, TiDB (for Storage team)

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and lead significant improvements to Airtable’s infrastructure, working across teams and product areas to maximize business and engineering impact
  • Work on systems-level problems in a complex design space where scalability, efficiency, reliability, and security matter
  • Build clean, reusable, and maintainable abstractions used by Airtable’s engineers
  • Take full ownership of components of Airtable’s infrastructure, including reliability, performance, efficiency, and observability of production environment
  • For Base Infrastructure: Build replication for zero downtime failovers, optimize performance and memory usage, vertical scaling; contribute to org-wide strategy and execution
  • For Data Infrastructure: Scale to petabyte volume, enable sub-second streaming, tighten data governance, deliver cost-efficient ML-ready datasets
  • For Storage: Own all aspects of building, running, and improving petabyte-scale storage systems, from underlying infrastructure to developer-facing abstractions
