Software Engineer II - Developer Support Engineering

Position Overview

Affirm is revolutionizing credit with a focus on honesty and user-friendliness, allowing customers to "buy now, pay later" without hidden fees or compounding interest. We are seeking a talented Software Engineer II with full-stack expertise to join our Developer Support Engineering team. This role is crucial to Affirm's operations, as you will be responsible for developing automated Service Level Agreement (SLA) reporting and incident communication platforms for our merchants. In addition to building full-stack software systems, you will identify and resolve bugs within our merchant integrations. You will leverage your full-stack development skills and empathetic communication abilities to debug complex technical issues. Your communication style with both developers and business stakeholders will be technically proficient, authentic, and genuinely helpful, aiming to impress even the most discerning engineers who have experienced less-than-ideal support in the past. Partner Engineers within the Developer Support Engineering team are an integral part of Affirm's engineering organization and collaborate closely with Product, Operations, Account Management, and Merchant Care teams.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, communicate, and implement reliable and extensible software systems.
  • Build and maintain services for storing SLA data and managing incident communication workflows to foster merchant trust.
  • Lead by example to cultivate a collaborative work environment that promotes autonomy, transparency, high craftsmanship, and personal growth.
  • Facilitate technical discussions and planning to enhance our software quality.
  • Autonomously fix integration bugs to support thousands of merchants.
  • Collaborate with engineers within our partner extensions team and across the organization to resolve integration bugs.
  • Participate in Incident Communications on-call rotations.

Requirements

  • Fluency in full-stack development and distributed systems.
  • 1-3 years of software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin, Python, JavaScript, React, or similar programming languages.
  • Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with AWS, RPC, MySQL, and GitHub.
  • Experience in synthesizing complex business, product, and technical requirements to consistently produce high-quality system designs and software.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay Grade: L
  • Equity Grade: 5
  • Base Pay Range (CAD): $125,000 - $175,000 per year. Employees new to Affirm typically start at the beginning of the pay range. Affirm's transparent pay structure considers factors like location, experience, and job-related skills.
